Graduation Speech High School Seniors - 2009 Words

High school seniors are typically in 17 to 19 years old. Because these students are relatively young and sometimes inexperienced, society often views them as naà ¯ve. Ironically, this same society pressures them to make critical life decisions. For instance, the majority of these students must determine whether to attend college or not. The students who do end up choosing college as their next step in life must then carefully select a major associated with their desired future career. Only a few students lean toward majors that match their passions. However, why do the rest of the students end up choosing the â€Å"prosperous† majors even if they are not passionate about it? The root of this dilemma lies in how society shows favoritism for â€Å"prosperous† majors, such as science, math, technology, political science, and business majors. Since society perceives them as the ideal majors and pressure students into choosing these majors. Because parents have a position o f authority, they also play a significant role in this process and may even manipulate their child into choosing what they think might be best for them. According to a College Student Journal survey â€Å"of more than 800 students who were asked to elaborate on their career decision-making process, factors that played a role included family and peer influence, and characteristics of the major† (Beggs, Bantham, Taylor, 2008, p. 382). Emma Kiy 6414631 ENG 2136 Dr. Seam Moreland Friday, 28 November, 2014 Oh, The Shark Has Pretty Teeth Dear and He Show’s ‘em, Pearly White When the image of a vampire is brought to mind one imagines a tall, thin and pale European aristocratic man dressed in fine clothes and displaying a set of pearly white fangs. However neither the aristocratic status nor the fangs can be found in folkloric accounts of vampirism. The true image of a vampire is a difficult thing to describe due to the influence that different cultures have had on the development of the myth. The depiction of vampirism in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend differ from one another and while these depictions stray from the folkloric accounts of vampires both find their roots in legend. A History of the Chola Empire of India

Nobody knows exactly when the first Chola kings took power in the southern point of India, but certainly, the Chola Dynasty was established by the third century BCE, because they are mentioned in one of Ashoka the Greats stelae.  Not only did the Cholas outlast Ashokas Mauryan Empire, they continued to rule until 1279 CE—more than 1,500 years.   Fun Fact The Cholas ruled for more than 1,500 years, making them one of the longest-ruling families in human history, if not the longest. The Chola Empire was based in the Kaveri River Valley, which runs southeast through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the southern Deccan Plateau to the Bay of Bengal.  At its height, the Chola Empire controlled not only southern India and Sri Lanka, but also the Maldives.  It took key maritime trading posts from the Srivijaya Empire in what is now Indonesia, enabling a rich cultural transfusion in both directions, and sent diplomatic and trading missions to Chinas Song Dynasty (960 - 1279 CE). Chola History The origins of the Chola Dynasty are lost to history.  The kingdom is mentioned, however, in early Tamil literature, and on one of the Pillars of Ashoka (273 - 232 BCE).  It also appears in the Greco-Roman Periplus of the Erythraean Sea (c. 40 - 60 CE), and in Ptolemys Geography (c. 150 CE).  The ruling family came from the Tamil ethnic group. Around the year 300 CE, the Pallava and Pandya Kingdoms spread their influence over most of the Tamil heartlands of southern India, and the Cholas went into a decline.  They likely served as sub-rulers under the new powers, yet they retained  enough prestige that their daughters often married in to the Pallava and Pandya families. When war broke out between the Pallava and Pandya kingdoms in about 850 CE, the Cholas seized their chance.  King Vijayalaya renounced his Pallava overlord and captured the city of Thanjavur (Tanjore), making it his new capital.  This marked the start of the Medieval Chola period  and the peak of Chola power. Vijayalayas son, Aditya I, went on to defeat  the Pandyan Kingdom in 885 and the  Pallava Kingdom in 897 CE.  His son followed up with the conquest of Sri Lanka in 925; by 985, the Chola Dynasty ruled all of the Tamil-speaking regions of southern India.  The next two kings, Rajaraja Chola I (r. 985 - 1014 CE) and Rajendra Chola I (r. 1012 - 1044 CE) extended the empire still further.   Rajaraja Cholas reign marked the emergence of the Chola Empire as a multi-ethnic trading colossus.  He pushed the empires northern boundary out of Tamil lands to Kalinga in the northeast of India  and sent his navy to capture the Maldives and the rich Malabar Coast along the subcontinents southwestern shore.  These territories were key points along the  Indian Ocean trade routes.   By 1044, Rajendra Chola had pushed the borders north to the Ganges River (Ganga), conquering the rulers of Bihar and Bengal, and he had also taken coastal Myanmar (Burma), the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and key ports in the Indonesian archipelago and Malay Peninsula.  It was the first true maritime empire based in India.  The Chola Empire under Rajendra even exacted tribute from Siam (Thailand) and Cambodia.  Cultural and artistic influences flowed in both directions between Indochina and the Indian mainland.   Throughout the medieval period, however, the Cholas had one major thorn in their side.  The Chalukya Empire, in the  western Deccan Plateau,  rose up periodically and tried to throw off Chola control.  After decades of intermittent warfare, the Chalukya kingdom collapsed in 1190.  The Chola Empire, however, did not long outlast its gadfly. It was an ancient rival that finally did in the Cholas for good.  Between 1150 and 1279, the Pandya family gathered its armies and launched a number of bids for independence in their traditional lands.  The Cholas under Rajendra III  fell to the Pandyan Empire  in 1279  and ceased to exist. The Chola Empire left a rich legacy in the Tamil country.  It saw majestic architectural accomplishments such as the Thanjavur Temple, amazing artwork including particularly graceful  bronze sculpture, and a golden age of Tamil literature and poetry.  All of these cultural properties also found their way into the Southeast Asian artistic lexicon, influencing religious art and literature from Cambodia to Java.

Cyber Ethics Should Be Addressed Sooner - 915 Words

In today’s Internet fueled society, we hardly go a single day without logging into some sort of computer, accessing the internet, checking social media, or accessing a wireless network. With nearly over forty-five percent of the world population using the Internet, a staggering 3,424,971,237 individuals connecting with each other in some web platform, it is not hard to see immoral and un-ethical acts taking place (Internet Users, 2016). As these numbers continue to grow, and the access to the Internet becomes easier, the practice of proper Internet usage is constantly jeopardized. Until recently, cyber ethics has not gotten the attention it deserves, with the acts on-line no different than acts in society, the awareness and education of cyber-ethics should be addressed sooner rather than later. Ethics refers to the well-founded standards of right and wrong that prescribe what human should do, usually in terms of rights, obligations, and benefits of society, fairness, or specific virtues (Manuel Velasquez, 2015). This statement is not far from the topic at hand, cyber-ethics, and the idealism of what is right and wrong in a cyber environment. Cyber-ethics is the discipline of using appropriate and ethical behaviors and acknowledging moral duties and obligations pertaining to online environments and digital media (Cyber-Ethics). A New Product Concept Free Essays

Every parent wants his child to develop good logical thinking skills and learn new things. That is why many parents employ different tutors or coaches for their children. Certainly, it is impossible to underestimate the contribution of books and developing games, but frequently children are getting bored of solving different problems or puzzles and throw such games away. We will write a custom essay sample on A New Product Concept or any similar topic only for you Order Now Therefore, a new product concept is a new type of a developing game, which will offer a reward for solving one or another puzzle or problem. It is a new generation of heuristic games, which uses a powerful stimulation – a bonus (it can be some money, a chewing gum, a cinema ticket, and so on), which can not be reached in other way but solving a puzzle. A number of the first bonuses will be placed into the game box by the manufacturer, and after those prizes are won by the child, parents can place new bonuses of their own choice and make different exciting surprises for their kid. In addition, it will be possible to choose a type of bonus stimulation: giving a bonus for every single puzzle solved, or giving some bigger bonus for a number of problems solved, etc. The game will have an option of selecting a level of difficulty, so it can be used for children of different ages, starting from 5 and above. Undoubtedly, this game develops not only logical thinking, but also, persistence, determination, willpower and perseverance. The main advantage of this game is the opportunity to transform the process of learning into some real fun and entertainment, which will also be rewarded in the end. I suppose that this innovative developing game will receive a good demand and find its market easily. This product does not require any sophisticated technological process of manufacturing and can be produced from a polymer material, which is safe for children. It is possible to use different color designs and decoration. At the most modest estimate, it is possible to start manufacturing of such games within 6-7 month, and receive the first profits in 3-4 month after entering the market. This business idea does not require huge financial investments and other resources, besides it has important social implication. Bibliography: Dotson, L. (2000, February 1). Enterprise Resource Planning System Disk4U and Sungate Foods

Question: Discuss about the Enterprise Resource Planning System for Disk4U and Sungate Foods. Answer: Introduction According to Monk and Wagner (2012) ERP which stands for Enterprise Resource Planning is a fully automated computer-based system for management of resources. The resources of the system are physical assets, finances, human resource and the components. The purpose of this automation is to ensure better flow of information between the different aspects of the business functions and the stakeholders (Hall 2012).AI (Accounting Information System) is a subsidiary of ERP and emphasizes more on the finances of the system. ERP/AIS help organizations to have a clearer picture of the business and ensure better inventory, production, and financial control. In this report it mainly analyzes about the two business processes and their requirements for implementation AIS/ERP software for the organization. The two organizations are Disk4U and Sungate Foods. For the purpose of the business proposal, the system requirements have been analyzed, with the help of the analyzed data comparative study between the available AIS/ERP software have been done for the selection of suitable software for the organization have been suggested. Company Background of Disk4U and analysis of existing system The Disk4U which is based in Sydney specializes in CDs and Vinyl records. The company is family owned and has four business outlets spread around the city. Earlier the business used to be limited to the physical shops and orders over the phones, which have lesser demands which could be met with the help of manual computations and planning. With the advent of the internet, the company also started taking an order over email and recently started online channel through Ebay. The expansion led to the requirement of better planning and computation tools for the organization. The lack of advanced facilities in the organization is affecting the capability of the team to take the required decisions on time (order processing and delivery). The organization doesnt possess the further capability to accommodate expansion. Hence it is highly recommended that the organization either goes for more employees or the company goes for automation systems that need working knowledge about the computer and is much more versatile and cheap compared to the equivalent workforce (Dumas et al. 2013). The company takes an order over the phone, email and through Ebay, which makes the delivery process a tedious task due to the variable address of delivery. The present system due to lack of automation suffers various disadvantages like lack of co-ordination between the outlets, which results in late delivery and sometimes delivery through the wrong outlet, which is a result of mismanagement of resources (Slabbert Seymour and Schuler 2016). Hence the expansion has resulted in severe mismanagement of resources and the possible solution for proper management is process automation. The companies of the market are facing difficulties in hiring in this booming economy which has resulted in the closure of the organizations around the world. The companies which are more resilient are facing problem in up gradation of the system (Weske 2012). The evolution of internet has changed the demographics of the present market, and the customers prefer the online mode for their order placement. The placed orders are delivered at the doorstep, hence making customers life easier. Hence the customer loyalty has been compromised hampering the previous market scenario. Hence the thriving businesses are making their presence in the online market (Meeker and Wu 2013). For management of the online business, it becomes necessary to have an automated system for taking the order and making the delivery for winning the trust of the consumers. For an efficient system, which co-operated between the physical and the digital world the need of AIS/ERP is paramount. The need of online presence has been seen in the above section, but the presence of physical location along with the internet presence sets a higher standard for the organization. The physical location long has been associated with loyalty and trust and having a physical outlet always adds to the credibility of the organization (Jones 2013). Hence a hybrid system of an organization is better than singular approach and organizations around the world are following this system. But this hybrid model needs greater resources, and the problem can be resolved with AIS/ERP (Johansson and Carlsson 2013).In his article Morgane Palomares says that the customer today has become knowledgeable about the products and services and for making the services that are more price conscious the organization should be interconnected and automated. Figure 1: Enterprise resource planning (Image source: blog.thehcigroup.com) Accounting system of Disk4U Disk4U is a company which deals with CDs and Vinyl records. The organization which was manual till date is facing the brunt of globalization and the internet. The requirement of the organization is simple. It wants to maintain the present business as a hybrid model that has both the online and the physical presence. The physical system of the organization consists of four shops that are distributed throughout Sydney. The business due the physical outlet had been manageable due to a lesser amount of sale through the outlets and with the present workforce, but the expansion of the organization into internet has made the presence of the company global which has resulted into increased orders and for the management of the financials is becoming difficult day by day. Also, the delivery system is suffering due to inefficient management and is causing a delay in services (Masoud 2013). Figure 2: The accounting process in Disk4U Image Source: As created by author Hence the AIS/ERP system has been suggested for Disk4U.The automation system is also capable of adapting to the future requirements and will help the organization have a better outlook about the processes being carried out by the system. Since Disk4U is distributed over four different places, a centralized automation will enable the managers to have a centralized view of the working system. The company also takes orders over the phone, email and through Ebay. Hence the delivery address is not constant and is different for each delivery. The delivery can be assigned to the specific outlet with the help of ERP software. Since the data is managed centrally, the faults in the system will be reduced, and the process is bound to be more efficient. AIS tools and packages for Disk4U ERP is management software that deals with the planning and management of the various component of the business process. ERP deals with segments like procurement, supply chain, human resources and finances (Johansson and Carlsson 2013). The software that inherently emphasizes the management of the finances is known as the AIS. A small organization that has limited management scopes opt for AIS and the organization which wants the planning associated with all its finances to opt for ERP. AIS is an integral part of ERP and hence for this project will be treated as one. For designing and selection of the system the various components of the system such as Planning, inventory management, production report and management updates, accounting information and bookkeeping, finances, and sales and purchases have to be updated in due time (Aslam Coombs and Doherty 2012) The procurement functionality in ERP deals with product planning, inventory management and manufacturing associated with the organization. Supply chain deals with the marketing, sales, and purchases of the organization. Human resources deal with the man forces that are working for the organization and the finances deal with the monetary dealings of the organization which deals with purchases and income (Leon 2014). For the selected organization Disk4U, there are two options that are available and can be implemented. The first option is offline software installation on the computers that are installed in the facility and the second one is the cloud services that doesnt need software to be installed in the system, the rentals are paid on a monthly basis and can be accessed anytime anywhere, and the update is all real-time and synchronized. There are ample cloud service providers in Australia, some of them being Sage, SAP, MYOB, Xero, etc. Selection of an AIS/ERP for the business For the ease of automation, the AIS/ERP that has been selected for the organization is Xero. Xero is the premier in the field of cloud accounting and bookkeeping in Australia. Cloud services have been suggested for Disk4U because of the size of the organization and its distributed nature. As it is already known that the cloud services are accessible from anywhere, and the competitive pricing makes the option extremely viable. The starting price for the cloud services is only 20 USD, and the services can be accessed even from a Smartphone(Xero Accounting Software, 2016). Since the requirement of the organization is not very high the starter pack, whose price has been mentioned above, is suggested. The packs can be upgraded with the growing business, and it goes pretty easy on the pocket. Analysis of the present system of Sungate Foods Sungate Foods is a rice and wild rice producing company based in Victoria and produces up to 80 tons per hour in peak season. It has a staff strength of around 200 employees and has three processing cum warehouses located in western Victoria. The largest milling facility of the company is situated in an area of 125,000 square feet and has a storage capacity of thirty thousand metric tons. The paddy in the raw for is processed in the facilities and the pure, clean rice is generated for consumption by the people. The organization is a medium scale company and has varied needs, for that purpose, there are various facilities maintained by the company. The organization has its rail spur, 250 thousand square feet of roads and air pollution controller which scrubs 240,000 cubic feet of air every minute. The company has the capability to work for 24 hours a day in peak season. To feed its production rate, the company buys from 350 farms and subsequently packages, distributes and finally sells the products in both domestic and international markets. The process of getting the rice is tedious and involves cleaning, boiling, drying the obtained output, milling, finally sorting and packaging the clean rice. The cleaning section contains the paddy cleaner which sorts out the stones and the dust; this makes the paddy free of any dirt. In the next step, the paddy is half cooked which is known as par-boiling so that the grains are made hard enough to withstand the pressure applied during the milling. The boiled rice is then dried and moved to the milling section where the husk is removed from the rice, and clean rice is produced (Kondo and Kawamura 2013). Figure 3: the information flow in Sungate Foods Image source: As created by author The organizations similar to Sungate Foods' are facing huge pressure due to a population boom and increased crop production. The pressure on the organization has resulted in the expansion of the facilities and development of the new facilities. More facilities under the same management need a proper management framework for maintaining quality and the speed. Quality and the speed of production is of paramount importance to an organization and decides the future course of the company (Jeston and Nelis 2014). For maintaining the desired goal of an organization, it is mandatory that the real-time data regarding the plants are available to the management for proper decisions. With the present infrastructure and facilities, the functions of the management were getting hampered in the organization, and the errors that were caused due to the mistakes had to be rectified which involved a great deal of works that costs the company a fortune (Bender et al. 2016). Hence the similar businesses need a system that can be easily edited and updated in case of any discrepancies. For ease of operation Ricegrower Association have implemented automated systems for speeding up of the various aspects of the farming which also ensures better work compared to previous methods(Rga.org.au, 2016). Ake Rice Mills have made the whole process mechanized which has helped in reduction of costs and processing time. This automation is the whole process has made the system more versatile and rugged. Involvement of lesser human workforce has resulted in lesser revenue that is being spent on the workforce as the machines are more capable compared to human beings(Akericemill.com, 2016). Hence it is recommended that the present system should be automated for ease of operation and saving time which will in time save a lot of human resources and ease the pressure on the accounting department and the management. Integration of ERP and IS for Sungate Foods Sungate Foods is a large organization and deals with a large amount of data every day. The data quantity can be guessed from the amount of work that the organization does every day. Manual data handling of such massive amount of data is bound to errors that will either result in a faulty calculation that can compromise with the name and fame of the organization. To ensure faultless transaction records, the time wasted is very large and involves a huge amount of human resources. A survey that has been done by the organization reports ten times the wasting time for editing the error that has been done while creating the multiple entries that is a fact of life for organizations of such order (Krahel and Vasarhelyi 2014). The time that is being wasted for error management and correction could be efficiently used for other productive works. The compilation of the financial records takes around weeks for completion from the patchworks. The staffs of the organization are always working for data insertion and the faults to the system make the work more tedious. The need for updated inventory is paramount for any organization and Sungate Foods' spends a lot amount of work to maintain it. The inventory data is also important for making the proper decision for a system. The absence of data or a faulty inventory feed will result in bad decisions that will in due course affect the organization which should be avoided on a priority basis. Hence the organization has expressed interest to implement the AIS/ERP system for minimization of calculation faults, that will reduce the time wasted on doing the calculations again and will help the management to have a better view regarding the system for taking valuable decision which will take the organization to the pinnacle of its glory (Aslam Coombs and Doherty 2012). Figure 4: The characteristics of information system (Image Source: Hill et al. 2013, pp: 210) AIS for Sungate Foods The Enterprise Resource Planning deals with the various aspects of the organization management. The various resources that are being used by the organizations are effectively managed to meet the ultimate goal of production. The aim of ERP is to ensure a smooth information flow between the departments so that the decisions that are taken by the concerned authorities are data driven and is not some whimsical decision (Chai Liu and Ngai 2013). Hence the ERP suites that are being sold on the market are designed to collect and organize all the data from the various levels of the organization and provide it to the management, so that have a better insight into the performance indicators in the real-time. There are five major components of the ERP; they are financial management, customer relationship management, human resource management, manufacturing resource management and supply chain management (Monk and Wagner 2012). The process parameters are the supply, procurement, inventory, finance, project, product lifecycle, human resources and the different critical factors of the process through the interconnected modules. For successful execution of the ERP, the whole system should be interconnected for a real time feed of the necessary parameters. There is various ERP software available in the market space some of them are: MYOB, SAP, Sage, etc. This software makes management of the system more efficient and time saving. Selection of an AIS/ERP for the business The need of Sungate Foods is very specific. The organizations need Accounting Information System, for easing the workload of its finance department and make the data available for better management decisions. The AIS services can be sorted out with the help of the available AIS software like Xero or MYOB, but the better management can't be facilitated with the help of AIS only (Usman Coombs and Neil 2014). For this purpose cloud ERP software has been selected for the organization. The selected service provider is Sage X3. The Cloud services can be accessed on any device and anywhere in the world and provided all the needed services like capturing all the information in a single platform, intelligent business integration and implementation of the application within eight weeks. The implementation of the software on the cloud in going to cost around 8300 USD and the users can be increased or reduced on a monthly basis. The flexibility and the price that is being provided the Sage are incomparable and with the cloud services that are being offered by the company it is bound to become a market leader. Effects of Video Games to the Academic Performance free essay sample

Effects of Video Games to the Academic Performance of Second year High School Students of Miraculous Medal School, School Year 2010-2011 The Problem and its Setting Introduction A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. Different platforms can be used to play video games, an example is personal computers. Video games typically use other ways of providing interaction and information to the players allowing them to feel like they’re really in to the game allowing it to be more addictive and fun. Video games, like most other media, may be categorized into genres based on many factors such as method of game play, types of goals, art style and more. Because genres are dependent on content for definition, genres have changed and evolved as newer styles of video games have come into existence. Ever advancing technology and production values related to video game development have fostered more life-like and complex games which have in turn introduced or enhanced genre possibilities (e. g. virtual pets), pushed the boundaries of existing video gaming or in some cases add new possibilities in play (such as that seen with titles specifically designed for devices like Sonys Eye Toy). Some genres represent combinations of others, such as massively multiplayer online role-playing games, or, more commonly, MMORPGs. It is also common to see higher level genre terms that are collective in nature across all other genres such as with action, music/rhythm or horror-themed video games. (Wikipedia) In the past, academic performance was often measured more by ear than today. Teachers observations made up the bulk of the assessment, and todays summation, or numerical, method of determining how well a student is performing is a fairly recent invention. Grading systems came into existence in America in the late Victorian period, and were initially criticized due to high subjectivity. Different teachers valued different aspects of learning more highly than others, and although some standardization was attempted in order to make the system fairer, the problem continued. Today, changes have been made to incorporate differentiation for individual students abilities, and exploration of alternate methods of measuring performance is ongoing. The tracking of academic performance fulfills a number of purposes. Areas of achievement and failure in a students academic career need to be evaluated in order to foster improvement and make full use of the learning process. Results provide a framework for talking about how students fare in school, and a constant standard to which all students are held. Performance results also allow students to be ranked and sorted on a scale that is numerically obvious, minimizing complaints by holding teachers and schools accountable for the components of each and every grade. Unfortunately, playing video games may have an effect on the academic performance of students if ever they will not balance their time between playing video games and having advance studies for their lessons at school. This study is conducted to explore the specific effects of video games to the academic performance of the second year high school. Statement of the Purpose This study aims to present the effects of playing video games on the academic performance of the second year students of Miraculous Medal School. Specifically, this study seeks to: 1. Identify the specific effects of video games to the academic performance of the second year students. 2. Point out the advantages and disadvantages of video games to the second year students. Significance of the Study Playing video games has a relative effect on the students. According to Robert Weis, a psychologist from Denison University of Ohio, students who play video games have lower performance in school than students who don’t play video games. Further research by Angeles Llorca Diez from the Department of Didactics of Musical, Plastic, and Corporal Expression at the University of Granada, along with professors Dolores Alvarez Rodriquez(University of Granada) and Angeles Diez Sanchez university of Salamanca) claims that video games doesn’t have effects on the academic performance of students. In fact, their research claims that video games can have a very positive effect on the academics of students, when used in moderation. The other researches that have been conducted are commonly focused on the behavioral effects of children when playing video games. These studies also focus on the negative effects of playing video games. There are also studies that say video games can be very addicting. The studies of Robert Weis and Angeles Llorca Diez together with professors Dolores and Angeles says that when students focus more on playing video games, they can have a negative effect on their performance in school but if there will be moderation in playing it can also have positive effects on students. This study is important because it can help in solving the problems of students in their academic performance. The low performance of students in school can easily solved and probably changes can be seen in the performance of students in school. Also this will help students to be motivated to lessen their time in playing video games for them to be able to have higher grades in school. And this will be a big help to parents and teachers alike, for they will be able to formulate strategies in handling students to avoid so much video game playing. Explanation on the Conceptual Framework Video games is one of the most famous and most used by the youth today.
